Memory Garden Ribbon Cutting

12 noon

at Memory Garden entrance, southeast quadrant of park

This year we combine the Community Yard Sale with the official Ribbon Cutting for our beautiful new "Memory Garden," made possible by a generous grant from the TKF Foundation in Annapolis, MD, with additional support from the DC Neighborhood Investment Fund, Casey Trees, ANC 5C, and many generous neighbors and friends. Join our donors, city and community leaders, and your neighbors to honor the memory of Crispus Attucks and to celebrate this place of reflection and peace. Help needed with promotion. Call John at 202-550-2631.

July (tentative)

Open Air Movie Nights?

Could this year be the year we finally make this happen? What kind of movies would you like to see? Call John at 202-550-2631.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

March - June 2007

Lawn Mowing -- Do you crave the smell of fresh cut grass but only have a postage stamp size front yard to trim? Borrow our lawnmower, and lawn. Call Jon at 571-212-0303.

"Water Brigade" -- The new irrigation system probably won't be installed until mid-May or later. In the mean time, all those new trees and sod will need watering to survive! We can supply water supply and hoses if you don't have them. Call John K at 202-265-7297 if you can help.

Door-to-Door Fundraising Campaign -- Meet your neighbors! This spring we continue our door-knocking campaign. Did you know that in order to cover just annual insurance and maintenance costs (no improvements), every house around the park would have to contribute $75 each year? To get involved, or to donate, call Paul at 202-319-2169.

Corporate Sponsorships for Yard Sale -- The large matching fund requirements we have under our grant agreements this year have forced us to step up our fundraising efforts. Is your company looking for a worthwhile organization as the target of its charitable giving? Or maybe you're well-connected? Or are good at asking for money? Let's talk! Call John at 202-550-2631.

Help Design New Park Welcome Sign -- With the Memory Garden nearly complete, TKF is now funding a professionally designed, three-sided Welcome Sign for the park. The sign will contain some history, photos, and some information about the community's short-term and long-term vision for the park. Interested in the history of the site? Are you creative? Call John at 202-550-2631.
